Tudor declares candidacy for presidential eclection / No anti-fascist protest launched / Where is Bucharest's AFA?

*****PLEASE NOTE (AND DELETE BEFORE POSTING): This contribution does actually not contain many news, but it is meant to stimulate a discussion. Due to the author's poor Romanian language skills, it would be great if you could translate the article. This would be most useful and contributing to the fact that the lines below concern Bucharest. Thanks!*****

Bucharest - On last Sunday PRM (Partidul Romania Mare) front man Vadim Tudor declared his candidacy for the upcoming presidential elections in Bucharest's historic center (1). Eventhough the manifestation in front of the Odeon Theater next to Calea Victorie was neither authorized by local officials nor by the theater's management Tudor and the henchmen of his neofascist party held their campaign (2).

Police force which had been on site in large numbers securing the Bucharest City Marathon seemed to be unimpressed by the illegaly conducted PRM event. Even more shocking: No protests were launched against Romania's radical right. On Sunday the stage was prepared to act effectively against the racist and nationalist PRM. While the marathon with its participants from different countries passed by the rally the supporters of PRM could have been outed as what they are: Neofascists. High visibility guaranteed.

No such attempt was launched. The manifestation went on undisturbed. Due to that fact a question has to be posed: Where is Bucharest's AFA? Revanchist, nationalist and anti-ziganist propaganda is visible not only in the media but on the city's streets as well. But who takes counter measures? Where is an anti-fascist lifestyle and an emancipated way of thinking promoted? Sure not on last Sunday's afternoon in the capital's center.

Time to organize - time to act: Against the right-wing in Bucharest and everywhere!
