More Time, More Money and More Resources

When I was at the University of Connecticut here in America from 2003 – 2006 I went through an experience involving group harassment starting in my sophomore year and ending about when I graduated. There were many things which came out of that experience and writing helps put them in their place. The best and most rewarding for have been insights which came from looking back and analyzing what happened so that I could share what I have learned . That way, others going through the same struggles can look at some of what I’ve written and perhaps find something they may find helpful in their struggle. There are many people overseas who want to come and study here. I write about my experiences to help inform people about the potential realities of prejudice here in the USA.

When I was a student getting earning a four year degree at a state university here in the US, I went through harassment based mainly on racial prejudice. It was an opportunity for me to see how current structured harassment can take place and develop within a group; though at the time I did not realize this. There were many aspects and specific facets to the harassment, and though I didn’t realize it at the time, what it provided was a way to see these things and discuss how they happened. This way any others going through such experiences would have something describing what they may be going through in a way which could be helpful.

The Power of an Induced Sense of Betrayal

When I was a student at the University of Connecticut, matriculated in the landscape architecture program, I experienced three years of group harassment. I graduated and have thought long and hard about what happened, how it happened and what to do in order to prevent it happening in the future to other people. Fortunately for me, I documented some of it through video and audio evidence. This, backed up with still images and documentation, helped me to remember, recount and to make sense of it in some ways.

The Last Remaining Rivet

When I was a student at the University of Connecticut (here in America) I became the target of group harassment. The harassment was based on racial profiling because of my race, and my participation in an act of student protest from 1990. The harassment at UConn (the University of Connecticut) happened between 2003 and 2006 while I was matriculated as a student in landscape architecture. As in many cases of harassment, no matter what the reason, most of the people participating were ignorant as to all the facts of why it was being done, and some just were enthusiastic about participating in the behavior itself.

College is a time to expand one's knowledge of self for those fortunate enough experience it. Many are there in part to experiment by taking chances in a safe environment. They also work hard and ponder what others have discovered to help inspire and inform decisions they will make going forward.

The Evolution of Morality

Scientists who study human evolution have discovered the evolutionary origins of morality. The concept of morality exists in every culture on Earth, but the morals themselves are different, which causes a lot of conflict in the world. Now that the Democrats own the U.S. Congress, I’m sure that conflict is about to get very interesting…

bender essay on the transdniestrian mass-media

It is worrisome that even 14 years after the collapse of the Soviet Union the population in the Transdniester region cannot enjoy an elementary birthright, the right to freedom. We believe that to a great extent the cause for this injustice is the lack of a free mass-media which could help form a more objective public opinion. It is well known that all the Transdniestrian media is biased and subordinate to the separatist authorities.

police repression of student protest in ukraine

In April 2004, president Leonid Kuchma ordered the Cabinet of Ministers to create a single Sumy National University on the basis of three other universities: Sumy State University, Sumy State Pedagogical University, and Sumy National Agrarian University. The prime minister and Kuchma-endorsed presidential candidate Viktor Yanukovych signed the order on June 17, 2004. On June 28, 2004, 1000 students, along with their parents and professors began a protest against the government's decision to unite the three universities, and decided to march in protest to the city of Kyiv. The students were detained and beaten in a “mass punitive operation” by the government and the police.

homunculus homo academicus, a letter from the center of nowhere

Professors are among the most respected creatures in society today, along with policemen and priests - therefore, perhaps, the most contemptible. Students live somewhere beneath this lofty height, trapped between two worlds: an intolerable present of sacrifice, banality, and economic misery, which we barely recognize, and a future of comfort, intellectual recognition, and perfect accommodation to life, which does not yet exist. Between the two, perpetually ... we wait.
